Byron & Emily Johnson
Serving Jesus in Chisinau, Moldova, and Ukraine

Eastern Europe is often thought of when people remember the Soviet Union. Moldova, a landlocked country nestled between Ukraine and Romania, gained its independence from the USSR on the 27th of August, 1991. With a population of 2.3 million, Moldova finds itself holding the title of the poorest country in Europe – tied only with Ukraine, which has seen great economic decline because of the Russo-Ukraine war.
With a desire to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ spread and a heart for the former Soviet Bloc, Byron and Emily Johnson have felt the Lord call them to move to Moldova, make the capital city of Chisinau (KEE-shi-now) their new home, and join the spiritual harvest happening in Eastern Europe. Their desire is to serve alongside a Moldovan led church and assist them in doing local outreaches, home fellowships, and ministry among Roma communities.
Given the proximity between Moldova and Ukraine, the Johnsons also feel the Lord calling them to take regular short-term trips into Ukraine to encourage Ukrainian believers and churches, offering respite if pastors are needing a break from the pulpit or helping hands if ministries are needing more labors for evangelical outreaches and summer camps.
